Aboriginal Health Practitioner - Generalist

About the Organisation

The Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) is a leading not-for-profit healthcare provider dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. With a focus on delivering culturally appropriate and holistic care, OVAHS provides a wide range of primary health services to meet the unique needs of our community.

We are committed to enhancing access to healthcare, empowering individuals, and fostering a safe and inclusive environment where community members feel respected, supported, and valued. Our passionate and skilled team of healthcare professionals work alongside community members to address both physical and mental health challenges while promoting preventative care, health education, and lifestyle initiatives.

At OVAHS, we believe in working with the community to strengthen and prioritise the social, emotional, and physical health of every individual. As part of a growing and dynamic organisation, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference and be a part of positive, long-term change in the community.

About the Opportunity

The Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service now has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP)  to join their team of dedicated health professionals in Kununurra, WA on a full-time basis.

Are you a passionate and dedicated AHP looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families? This is your chance to join a dynamic team, where you’ll be delivering high-quality, culturally safe healthcare.

In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, patient-centered care that supports the health and wellbeing of our community. Your expertise will contribute to early intervention, prevention, and management of acute and chronic conditions, ensuring better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This is more than just a job—it’s an opportunity to be part of a team that values community, culture, and connection. You’ll have access to professional development, a supportive work environment, and the chance to make a real difference every day.

Please note: Due to the nature of the Aboriginal Health Practitioner role, applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander as a genuine occupational qualification in accordance with section 50 (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act (1984).

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled AHP with a commitment to delivering culturally safe and person-centered care. With experience in general and/or child health, you are passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Your ability to build strong relationships with clients, families, and the community sets you apart. You thrive in a team-based, multidisciplinary environment and bring excellent clinical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to healthcare.

To be considered for this position you must hold current registration with AHPRA, with at least two years post-graduate experience.

Whilst you will be very well supported by the OVAHS team, you will be living and working in a remote part of Australia, therefore you will need to be resilient, with good communication skills and the ability to build trust within the local communities in which OVAHS operates.

Importantly, you will be committed to providing culturally sensitive healthcare and demonstrate an interest in working closely with Aboriginal communities, to understand their health issues and work with them to find solutions.
