Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service is delivering Individual Capacity Building (ICB) activities in the Kununurra District that support the needs of participants living with a disability, their families or care givers who are from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.
The aim of OVAHS ICB Wellbeing services is to support participants, their families or caregivers to build their capacity to access community life and their cultural activities as independently as possible; support the development of social and other well-being skills; and build confidence to self-manage and improve relationships.
As indicated below these are be carried out in a number of ways including;
Culturally appropriate 1:1 or group art and craft sessions
Group theatre or movie activities
Group based health and nutrition activities
Attending community-based activities such as Kimberley Moon, District Agricultural Show and cultural celebrations such as NAIDOC
Group based support sessions for families and caregivers
As an extension to our current transport service, OVAHS offers individual or group transport to and from OVAHS to participate in group centre activities or individual support sessions.
Referrals:
Self-Referral through OVAHS Clinic or Health and Wellbeing unit. All age groups with disability can attend the program.
