OVAHS is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting on a rotating basis. It is incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). The Board of Directors ensures OVAHS’ legal obligations are managed, governance is transparent, they provide the focus for the leadership, and plan the strategic direction of OVAHS to its objectives. The Board undertake annual education and training, planning, review, and evaluation as well as holding regular board meetings. Board members are committed to and obliged to participate in these activities and seek input from experts when necessary. OVAHS has multiple checks and balances, including external monitoring and scrutiny mechanisms to ensure the highest standards of Australian governance principles. The Board employs a Chief Executive Officer who manages day-to-day operations in line with the Board’s direction.
